The market opens on a flat note this morning. Earlier, the US markets ended flat with the Dow up 11 points, while Asia is trading quiet. Sensex is trading at 17658, up 68 points from its previous close, and Nifty is at 5280, up 18 points. CNX Midcap index is up 0.4% and BSE Smallcap index is up 0.5%. The market breadth is positive with advances at 538 against declines of 158 on the NSE.
At this hour the market is trading quiet with metals and financials under pressure. Asian markets closed in the red while Europe opened flat and is trading soft. Sensex is trading at 17608, up 18 points from its previous close, and Nifty is at 5265, up 2 points. CNX Midcap index is up 0.4% and BSE Smallcap index is up 0.8%. The market breadth is positive with advances at 784 against declines of 470 on the NSE.
There are some apprehensions about the stock markets, but the markets are backed by some real fundamental growth, says Promod Haque of Norwest Venture Partners on CNBC TV18. According to him, technology has been a growth story and companies will need to invest in it to beat wage hikes. Valuations are somewhat different in each country and we do investments in early stage companies and in growth stage companies in the US, Israel, India and China and it's fair to say that each country has its own set of issues and therefore, valuations in each country are somewhat different, he adds.

The market ended quite lackluster on this last day of the financial year. After a flat opening, it rallied a bit and then dipped, in the latter half of the trading session, and closed in the red. Sensex closed at 17529, down 60 points (provisional) and Nifty at 5250, down 11 points (provisional) from the previous close. CNX Midcap index was up 0.5% and BSE Smallcap index was also up 0.5%.
